This one-of-a-kind polished fossil specimen is a wonderfully characterful piece for anyone drawn to natural history, unusual geological finds or simply the beauty of ancient forms preserved in stone. Measuring approximately 80 x 70mm across the polished face, it combines a smooth cut surface with a rougher natural exterior, giving you both the refined detail of the fossil-bearing face and the tactile, untouched texture of the original matrix.
The front has been cut and polished to reveal a dark grey interior surrounded by warm sandy-brown and beige stone. Within the polished face is a clearly visible spiral fossil consistent with an ammonite cross-section, showing pale cream chambering and natural internal patterning. Running across the face is a second elongated fossil-like inclusion, creating an especially interesting composition and giving the specimen more visual detail than a simple single-fossil slice. Because the exact species, geological formation and collection locality are not known, we have deliberately kept the identification cautious rather than inventing a more specific name.
The contrast between the darker central matrix and lighter fossil material makes the ammonite structure easy to see. Fine natural lines, small inclusions and hairline-looking mineral features are present across the polished surface, while the outer edges retain irregular contours and changes in colour. Turn the piece over and the reverse is completely different: rounded, naturally weathered-looking forms in pale tan, ochre, cream and grey create a much more rugged appearance. This combination of polished and natural surfaces gives the specimen a particularly appealing display quality.
Ammonites were extinct marine cephalopods with coiled shells. Their fossil remains are prized both by collectors and by people who simply enjoy the shapes, patterns and tangible connection to deep geological time that fossils provide. Without a confirmed provenance we cannot responsibly state the exact species, age or place of origin of this specimen, so the listing describes only what can be reliably seen in the piece itself.
This would make a lovely addition to a fossil collection, crystal and mineral cabinet, curiosity shelf, study, desk or nature-inspired display. It also works well as an unusual gift for someone interested in palaeontology, geology, natural history or one-of-a-kind decorative specimens. The relatively compact size makes it easy to display without needing a large amount of space, while the visible fossil detail gives it plenty of character when viewed up close.

Quantity: One exact specimen only
As a natural fossil and mineral specimen, this piece contains irregularities that are part of its character. Small pits, tiny chips, fine fractures, changes in texture, inclusions, uneven edges and differences in polish are all normal for this type of material. The visible lines and natural markings on the polished surface should not be treated as defects; they are part of the stone and fossil matrix. Please study the photographs carefully, as they show the exact item you will receive and form part of the product description.
For care, keep the piece dry and avoid soaking it in water or using household chemicals, oils, sprays or abrasive cleaners. Dust can be removed gently using a soft dry cloth or a small soft brush. If the polished face needs a little more cleaning, use a barely damp soft cloth and dry the surface immediately afterwards. Avoid dropping the specimen or storing it loose against harder stones, as fossil-bearing matrix can chip along natural weak points.
This is the exact one-of-a-kind fossil specimen pictured. Once it has sold, we may find similar pieces in future, but the fossil placement, natural matrix, colour, shape and surface details of this particular specimen will not be repeated.
